Golf is becoming one of the most popular sports in the country today. Unlike most sports, golf has the mechanism to monitor the improvement or deterioration of the skill of each player based on the scores of the games he has played. Called the handicap, this mechanism is the basis for the classification of each golfer in tournaments, as well as group play. Being the basis for a golfer's classification, the handicap, invariably, has to be accurate and consistent. Otherwise, a golfer may be misclassified and may be allowed to play in a tournament group to which he does not properly belong. Accuracy and consistency, as well as currency, of the golfers' handicaps ensure that the playing field for golfers will always be level.

Recognizing the need of golf enthusiasts with NO membership in any golf club here in the Philippines to have their own true and certified handicap, the IPI Golf Club was established. In essence, the IPI Golf Club shall compute for the handicap index of these golfers from the games played in the participating golf clubs through its direct affiliation with Information Professionals, Inc. (IPI) or the provider of the Federation Golf Handicapping System (FGHS).
